Nestled atop a 300-foot-high mountain ridge, it enjoys the acknowledged best view on Vieques, voted by Travel & Leisure as “The Best Caribbean Island.” The home’s matchless concrete construction follows the Japanese Wabi-Sabi tradition. It is graced with arresting art at every turn – commissioned paintings by artists of note, imported Balinese statuary, a collection of antique Buddha images, custom-sculpted falling waters.

Christened Casa Cascadas after the soothing murmur of its several waterfalls, this expansive home offers breathtaking, sunrise-to-sunset vistas of the Caribbean Sea, St. Croix and the mountainous El Yunque rainforest on the nearby main island of Puerto Rico.

Casa Cascadas is situated on a secluded lane that overlooks a sweeping expanse of wooded parkland. The house commands a postcard view of the three bays of Vieques – and directly overlooks the world-famous Bioluminescent Bay. On the property is a landscaped orchard of star fruit, sea grape, orange, lemon, banana, pineapple, grapefruit, coffee, lemon grass, Natal Plum, Kei Apple and tropical, flowering plantings of every description.

Centrally located within minutes of the island’s many pristine Caribbean and Atlantic beaches, Casa Cascadas was impeccably designed by an architect of international stature, and -- completed in 2010 – is in itself a work of art:

• Fifty-two-foot parallelogram-shaped swimming pool
• Expansive pool deck with shower, accented by Balinese statuary
• Sequestered meditation garden with a custom-designed water wall and a commissioned mobile/water sculpture
• Trellised, upper-floor loggia with custom-built lounges and antique marble bas relief
• Gated parking court
• Solar hot water

There are two very private suites, each with a built-in, king-size, tempurpedic platform bed and a bathroom with custom-designed double sink and open-air shower. The suites are on the upper level of the house, separated by a trellised loggia with custom-built lounges. Guests have use of a separate kitchenette on the loggia level, with sink, mini-fridge, stovetop, coffeemaker and toaster. Each suite is provisioned with coolers, beach chairs, beach umbrella and towels.

A Continental Breakfast Buffet is prepared each morning. The menu ranges from juices, fresh fruit or fruited yogurt parfaits to cold cereals, cheeses, sliced meats and home-baked breads. Romantic dinners under the stars also are available, prepared and served by professional gourmet chefs.

Casa Cascadas displays significant artwork designed to enhance the tranquil retreat of its guests, and its architecture features concrete stairways, a deep swimming pool and open landscaping. These features prompt us to establish an adults-only policy. We do not accommodate pets, and, of course, Casa Cascadas is non-smoking.

We have a single, year-round rate structure:

• $300 per night, per suite, including tax and breakfasts
• Three-night minimum stay
• Refreshed bed linen, upon request, at $25
• Refreshed towels, upon request at $10
• 50% deposit check at time of booking to hold reservation; balance upon arrival
• Cancellations: 50% refund of deposit if canceled 30 days before check-in
• No credit cards

Vieques, Puerto Rico, is a U.S. possession. As such, there are no passport or visa requirements, and access is easy via major carriers, with frequent, 18-minute connecting flights from San Juan.
